Loss Doesn't Shut Up Ravens

Boston Herald  --  “(Tom Brady) sometimes found some spots, made some plays,” outside linebacker Terrell Suggs said. “But like I said, he just better hope he don’t see us again.”

“We already know that story,” Suggs said. “Do you really need me to answer that? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. We’re a dangerous playoff team so we look forward to the rematch.”

“I think they got like one or two plays that they drew up on the bye week that actually worked, like the (Brandon Tate) reverse and the little double wheel with (Aaron) Hernandez,” Suggs said. “But after that, when they had to line up and play football they didn’t have too many things go well for them. (Brady) made some plays and we tip our hat for him. Congratulations.”

“He was trying to tell me how to bag a Hollywood actress,” Suggs said. “He said, ‘If you want to get a Hollywood actress, take my seminar on Saturday.’ …He was going over the Dow and the economy and politics. He doesn’t really talk football that much.”

It really is quite comical how much the Ravens talk. I mean, I loved it when they were going against the Jets, because I hate the Jets. But aside from that, it's just absurd that they can even find the pride within themselves to run their mouths after a loss. You're going to go out there and say the Patriots didn't do much besides two reverses? Were you watching the same game I was, Terrell? Deion Branch makes 9 grabs for 98 yards on your stellar defense in his first game back. Danny Woodhead gets over 100 total yards against your stellar defense. Your offense can't manage a single point in the fourth quarter or overtime against this young, inexperienced defense that just about everyone has been calling insufficient for the tasks at hand. Well, Tom Brady said it best on WEEI this morning.

“He had his chance. Maybe if he gets another chance he can try to back those words up. But he had a chance yesterday. You know, we’ve played guys a lot, and they’ve beat us one time in all the times that I’ve played them. They talk a lot for beating us once in nine years.”

Could the situation be summed up any better than that? The Ravens beat us one time. And I'll admit that they destroyed us heartily in that one defeat. But considering they just went on to lose to the Colts in the following round, is it really something to use to your credit? This is what separates teams like Baltimore from teams like New England. You will never hear a Patriot say something like this, especially following a loss. A championship team worries about fixing their mistakes from a loss and improving their effort for the following week. A showboating, superficial team will trash talk, make excuses, dodge the truth, and assume a playoff birth. For the record, Terrell Suggs, I fully hope to see you in the playoffs. But if we don't, be sure to grab a comfortable seat on the couch to watch a team who does things the right way.

  1. I kind of agree with Suggs in that the Pats offense didn't really do all that well, and to say "The Patriots smackdown on the Ravens yesterday..." is completely absurd. Besides the Brady-Branch connection I was relativly dissappointed with the offense. Woodhead's 63 yards rushing were legit, but his recieving yards tell me that recievers were covered, because unless it's a screen, Danny Woodhead is just a dump off option when everything else is covered. We really have no deep threat, and Tate really isn't any good.

I don't like to be a negative nancy here, but I guess I don't feel like yesterday was as dominante a performance as you do. I feel the game was a really hard fought and defensive one. The Pats pulled out a great win against an extremely evenly matched opponent. If you're looking for something to praise look at the defense. Mayo and Spikes combined for over 30 tackles, McCourty looks like he's going to turn into a legit NFL #1 corner, Ray Rice's longest run was 8 yards, and there weren't any big passing plays. The offense did the minimum of what it would take to win, and were nonexistent in the first half. So in that sense I agree with Suggs. However, he's fucking annoying going out and bitching about, really nothing, after a loss. He's just compensating for the fact that Brady (the supposed pussy, model of the NFL) got up in his face and made him look pretty unintimidating. I too hate teams that need to talk shit after every game. It's childish. More teams win with the Patriot way than they do the Raven/Jet way anyway, so let him talk, it makes the victory all the more sweet.
