5 Reasons Why the Pats are the Best

So you're sitting in front of your t.v. watching the Pats dominate the Jets in front of the entire Monday Night Football crowd, and you're probably smiling and asking yourself: what makes the Patriots the best team in the league right now? What makes them arguably the best team of the century? I was originally going to make this a 10 part answer, but here's the answer in five.

5. The veterans of this year's team - Branch. Welker. Wilfork. Warren. Wright. Ninkovich. Sanders. Light. Mankins. Koppen.Vollmer. Connolly. Crumpler. Mayo. Banta-Cain. None of these guys are Brett Favre, but they are certainly veterans on this team. While many times its the rookies and younger players in the spotlight, these are the guys that never fail us as fans. And they make their own fair share of huge plays.

4. The entire Pats defense - consistently the best defense in the game, they have not failed us this year either, even with what appeared to be a weakened secondary. With Vince Wilfork leading a young defense, I wasn't quite sure how this year was looking. But as usual, the Pats have come through just when the rest of the league thought they were down. The Pats defense is why they've been the best in the past 10 years, hands down.

3. This year's entire rookie class - in some of my previous posts, I placed some expectations on Devin McCourty, Aaron Hernandez, and Brandon Spikes. Wow. Not only has McCourty covered some of the best in the NFL, he's quickly become the best player in the Pats secondary. Hernandez and Gronkowski have become the best tight-end tandem in the NFL. Spikes has been a fantastic addition to the linebacking core. Jermaine Cunningham hasn't played too bad either. And it's not just rookies, newbies like Danny Woodhead have also made an impressive showing this season.

2. Tom Brady - Peyton's questionable season leaves me wondering. I always compared the two, but in all honesty, I usually put Manning's name first. But what does Brady have? Consistency. Decision-making. The best offensive line in football. The other ten players on the field make his job a hell of a lot easier, but his ability to think quickly and play consistently, even in high-pressure playoff competitions are what set him apart from all others.

1. Bill Belichick - nothing against Tom Brady, but Bill Belichick is a genius. He may literally be one of the smartest people on earth. You see, what he does is he takes young players and fills all the holes on the team that aren't filled by his veterans. Every single one of these young guys has something to prove, and once they have proved themselves, they either submit to Belichick's team-first play style, or they're out. Oh yeah, he also runs the entire defense himself.

Oh and p.s. Sorry for the long hiatus from the blog.

  1. worst article i have ever read, you obviously do not know about other teams in the NFL. to say the pats have the best defense in the league is a joke, and to rank them as the best team in a century is even more of a joke. do me a favor, take another incredibly long hiatus from blogging.

  2. To take Josh's side on this one, he never says they are the best defense in the league. He says they have been over the last 10 years. And, by and large, that's very plausible. And please name me a better team in NFL history. 3 out of 4 is pretty much the best anyone has done, the Pats have done it, plus a perfect season, and looking at a potential fourth ring. I don't see why that's a joke to say this is the best run anyone has made in history.

  3. "consistently the best defense in the game, they have not failed us this year either"

    as of now,
    31st in Total Yds/Game Allowed
    31st in Pass Yds/Game Allowed
against the rush we have been okay I'll give you that. But we are not a good defense. Do we have potential to grow, yes. And just so you know before last night we were dead last in both those categories.

I guess I was a little harsh without actually defending my own opinions, but I feel a like josh is being a bit to much of a homer.

Over the past ten years, yes the pats have had a good defense. However, I would put this as one of our worst. we are 14th in the league in pts allowed. Not that good. We allow 22.4 pts per game. not good at all. What I do agree with is TB and BB are genius's.

  4. you can throw all those stats out there, but look how much of that was in garbage time. The Bengals, Steelers, and arguably the Colts put up most of the passing yardage in the fourth quarter. We already had an incredibly large lead in those games so the defense started to get less focused, its natural. You gotta look at the games in context, not just the stats. Because if you go by the stats, then clearly you haven't been watching the games

  5. Yeah I have to defend myself here. I never said they were the best this year. But they haven't failed us. They've been good enough. Good enough for us to be 10-2 right now. They've exceeded all my expectations.

And I'm sorry, but name me another team that has been as consistently good as the Pats in the past 10 years. You won't find one. 3 out of 4 is ridiculous. Otherwise Anonymous you made a lot of good points! Keep up the good commenting!

  6. I will agree they have definitly exeeded everyone's expectations. No in there right mind can sit here and say they saw this coming. This year for the entire NFL has been unpredictable. Who thought the Raiders would be 6-6, the same record as the COLTS! Who saw the Rams being top in their division. Who saw the Cheifs being who they are. Who saw Peyton Hillis having a huge year? Obviously not Josh McDaniels. The NFL is full of surprises. The Patriots are a surprise this year. A surprise I am wicked happy about. As I said before I guess I was a bit harsh initially. However, I feel it was written while you were high. High off the Pats destruction of the Jets. High off Rex Ryan making some of the worst coaching decision's of his career. High off Mark Sanchez falling off the pedestal sports writer's have put him on this year. High off a 45 to 3 win.
