11/5 NBA Recap: SCALABRINE!

It was another exciting game for the Celtics, and one Phoenix player put up 5 points in under two seconds. Here's today's NBA recap.

Coming off a hotly contested game with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Celtics once again found themselves in overtime, this time against the Chicago Bulls, who were led by Joakim Noah, who put up a career-high 26 points and had 12 rebounds. As good as Noah was, it just wasn't enough in overtime. A thunderous dunk by Ray Allen, who had 25 points of his own, and a steal by Kevin Garnett capped off the victory. Are the Celtics adopting the Patriots "bend don't break" mantra this season?

The game marked the return of Celtics staples over thepast 5 years Tom Thibodeau (now the Bulls coach) and of course, Brian Scalabrine. Scalabrine recieved an impressive standing ovation as the fans chanted "SCALABRINE!" Though many times the fans would chant his name as a joke, it was pretty cool to see the Boston fans welcome him back (even if it was a joke.)

Rajon Rondo had another double-double, having 10 points and 11 assists. Only 11 assists! How terrible! Just kidding, but Rondo has set the bar so high for himself with assists that a very good number of assists (11) pales in comparison to his other assist totals.

In another thrilling game, the Phoenix Suns defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 123-118. However, Jason Richardson is the real story here, as he put up an astounding 5 points in 1.1 seconds, sending the game into overtime where the Suns took it. Richardson had 38 points in the game. Grant Hill in-bounded the alley-oop layup to Richardson, which reminds many Kentucky fans about his in-bounds pass to Christian Laettner, which won Duke the East regional in the 1992 NCAA Tournament.

Blake Griffin had a career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds in a loss to Denver. Denver was led by Carmelo Anthony, who had 30 points and shot 70% from the field. Chris Kaman's percentage was slightly worse, shooting 27%. Just slightly.

Some quick notes:

-The Atlanta Hawks and the LA Lakers remain undefeated. One team has a serious chance of winning it all, while another is still a long shot. I'll let you guess which team is which.

-Kevin Love played only 26 minutes in a loss to the previously mentioned Atlanta Hawks. The strange thing with Kevin Love sitting is (well, one of them at least) that he had only 4 personal fouls. Free Kevin Love! No, seriously. Love had 18 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. Atlanta only won by10; what if Minnesota had the brain to play their best player some quality minutes? Is Isiah Thomas secretly coaching this team or something? Was it because of this high-five mishap?

-Can I switch my #2 pick from the Atlantic division (?), because the Knicks are actually looking pretty good and the Sixers are looking anything but.

-The New Orleans Hornets are also undefeated, beating the "Team that Shall Not Be Named." It was a career night for Emeka Okafor, having 26 points and 13 rebounds. One of the "Big Three" (the PF), had only 1 rebound. Don't rebounds win championships?

-Dwight Howard dominated one of my favorite centers Brooke Lopez, putting up 30 points and 16 rebounds, in a 15 point victory over the Nets. This doesn't help his rootforability, but an impressive performance nonetheless.

MVP of the Night: Jason Richardson (I think you know why)

  1. I wish the T'Wolves (my favorite team) played Love. He's such a nice low post threat, and I get pissed because we could win games if the idiotic coaches played him more.
