Wild Weekend in the Books
Wildcard weekend certainly lived up to the hype. You all know the results, and some of you saw my picks. Brutal, right? 0-4. My NFC champion went down on Wildcard Sunday. But I won't cry about it. Because this is an any given Sunday league, and it never disappoints. The Seahawks (?) are going to the next round, and they have earned themselves a date with the Chicago Bears. I see the Bears as a pretty beatable team -- could we see Seattle in the NFC Championship? It would be a crazy occurrence, but need we see any more evidence to tell us that anything is possible? Regardless, the winner of that matchup will take on the winner of Green Bay and Atlanta -- a marquee battle for supremacy. The Pack has found its stride at the right time, and they derailed the magical run that Michael Vick and his Eagles have made throughout this campaign. Are Vick's days as an Eagle over? I guess that will be a story for the offseason.
In the AFC, we see the Jets pull a horseshoe out of their ass for the billionth time this season. I'm not too upset about it. I'll take the Jets over the Ravens, who are coming off a 30-7 shellacking of the Chiefs and eliminated us last season. Give me the cocky, foot-crazy Rex Ryan and I'll see how the cards fall. New England has split the season series with the Jets, so this decisive game will settle things the way they should be settled. In the other grouping, we will see another divisional rivalry for the Steelers and Ravens to clash at Heinz Field. They, too, have split their season series. They always beat each other up, and the winner of the Pats-Jets game will certainly be hoping their opponent has been beaten up as much as possible. Get here, weekend! How is it only Sunday night?
These playoffs should be a fun ride moving forward. My preseason Super Bowl pick -- the Patriots over the Packers -- is still alive. I altered it heading into this postseason, taking the Eagles instead of the Pack. But I did say the other day that the winner of that GB-PHI game would represent the NFC. So we'll see. Will the preseason pick come back to reality? Can the Patriots shut the Jets up once and for all? How far will the Falcons soar under the radar? It's the beauty of football, and thankfully, we still have a few more weeks of it before pitchers and catchers report.
