NHL: 30 teams, 30 Stars

A quick look at the 30 teams in the National Hockey League and who has been the best player for them in the first half of the season.

Anaheim Ducks: Corey Perry. With the injuries to Getzlaf and the inconsistency of Ryan, Perry has been the leader of the team from the beginning. Point-per-game pace for this gritty forward has put him among the leagues most well-rounded players.

Atlanta Thrashers: Dustin Byfuglien. As a defenseman, he has lit the lamp 16 times already and added 25 assists, putting him in the lead for the Norris trophy. The Thrashers got more than their money's worth on this trade.

Boston Bruins: Tim Thomas. Everyone's surprised, but should we be? Tim Thomas isn't. The favorite for the Vezina trophy has posted surreal numbers thus far and has silenced the doubters once and for all.

Wild Weekend in the Books

Wildcard weekend certainly lived up to the hype. You all know the results, and some of you saw my picks. Brutal, right? 0-4. My NFC champion went down on Wildcard Sunday. But I won't cry about it. Because this is an any given Sunday league, and it never disappoints. The Seahawks (?) are going to the next round, and they have earned themselves a date with the Chicago Bears. I see the Bears as a pretty beatable team -- could we see Seattle in the NFC Championship? It would be a crazy occurrence, but need we see any more evidence to tell us that anything is possible? Regardless, the winner of that matchup will take on the winner of Green Bay and Atlanta -- a marquee battle for supremacy. The Pack has found its stride at the right time, and they derailed the magical run that Michael Vick and his Eagles have made throughout this campaign. Are Vick's days as an Eagle over? I guess that will be a story for the offseason.
