Which brings me to Tim McCarver. As he and Joe Buck analyzed that play, Mr. McCarver brilliantly stated, "It was a strike, but not 3."
Well said. Kinda like this..
Can ANYONE call a good game on a national telecast? Any sport at all. Let's hear it below!
On another note, NESN.com reported yesterday that a trade for first basemen Adrian Gonzalez, old friend Jed Hoyer's stud first basemen, is not probable. But if it were, it might not be worth the talent that we would surrender to the Padres. An initial package of Jacoby Ellsbury, Jed Lowrie, and prospect Anthony Rizzo was composed (not in conversation amongst teams). Pretty good deal, right? Doesn't that seem like a lot? Apparently, not enough. We'd have to give up more...a LOT more. Either pitching prospect Casey Kelly or phenom shortstop Jose Iglesias (shortstop of the future) would be on their way out too.
For a guy who hit .298, 31 homers and 101 RBIs? Not interested. I'd rather overpay Beltre, although it would probably be best not to be in contact with agent Scott Boras. But, the Sox had plenty of offense without Gonzalez, while also not having Jacoby...and Pedroia.....and Youk...ugh. Can mid-February come any sooner?
The Phillies and Giants split the games in Philadelphia. San Francisco owes a big 'Thank You' to the Florida Marlins for the services of Cody Ross. Sure, there are certain pitchers that some batters simply produce off of when facing them. But that's Roy Halladay. That's pretty damn good for someone like Ross, who Giants fans probably never heard of before he got there. I still got Philly in this one, although 5 games may have been a tad short.
And don't look now, Sox fans (and Yankee haters), but our new best friends from Texas are showing Joe Girardi's club what they are made of. If the Rangers bullpen didn't ruin game 1, they would be up 3-0! (Although, most of us know a thing or two about 3-game deficits.) And, besides the explosion off of the bullpen in game 1, the Yankee bats have been silenced. This is a good enough offense (especially if A.J. Burnett pitches tonight), and a good enough pitching staff that can take this series.
Let's continue to support the team that is opposing the Evil Empire!
Comments about that proposed trade (or anything)? My vote is a very firm "No". And Theo's better be too.
I don't like that trade either. I don't want to trade that many prospects for Gonzalez, especially Jose Iglesias (Hanley Ramirez anyone?)
ReplyDeleteNo doubt, agreed. And now knowing where Ryan Westmoreland's future is (brain surgery), trading Jacoby doesn't work for me. He was clearly missed on the basepaths this season.
