In an attempt to avoid ESPN's obsession with underachieving teams, I'll talk about both squads in last night's contest.
The C's did good things. Offensively, Ray and Paul did their jobs, while Big Baby picked up some slack off the bench. Pierce, Shaq and KG crashed the boards. Rondo had an off night scoring, but I think 17 assists make up for that. (Seventeen? Seriously?).
We were not perfect by any means. But the Heat were not in sync at all.
Lebron just did his usual let-me-attempt-to-take-over-the-game during the second half. Wade's lack of preseason showed with his 4-16 night, while Bosh didn't fare well either, going 3 of 11 from the floor. They desperately need a reliable point guard. When your starting PG gets 0 assists, you might have some issues there. And Eddie House, as much as we love him (we still love him, right?), definitely is not a starting point guard.
So that's it. The Heat are now the worst team in the Eastern Conference (check the standings!).
(Sarcasm included)
I look forward to seeing how both of these teams progress during the season. I still view this match-up as the potential Conference Finals, as these veteran superstars all search for another (or their first (LOL shot at Lebron)) Title.
Which brings me to another Title: the World Series Title. Should I just pick the team that I want to lose? I have picked 2 out of 6 series correct so far. But hey, that's a better percentage than what Dwayne shot last night.
Rangers over Giants in 6.
I'm very hesitant to not pick the Giants. They remind me of the Sox in '04. They have the characters that make their team chemistry work, they have talented players, and simply are showing their desire to win. But I will make a similar reference that I made for the NLCS...
Whose a more intimidating 3-4-5 combo; Aubrey Huff, Buster Posey, and Pat Burrell, or Vlad Guerrero, Josh Hamilton, and Nelson Cruz?
Tough call. I'm going with the latter. I'm excited to watch it unfold.
