Role Reversal
Four years ago, Tyler Seguin was a 14-year-old kid likely familiar with plenty of faces in the NHL. Back then, Phil Kessel would be recognized as a Boston Bruin. As for himself, Seguin would have been dreaming to one day play for his hometown heroes, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tonight, it's an intense role reversal for the Bruins promising young rookie talent.
Seguin and the Bruins (4-2-0) will square off against Kessel and the red-hot Maple Leafs (5-2-1) in Boston's first divisional battle of the young season. In addition to the personal attachment Seguin has to this matchup, the Bruins and Leafs have plenty of recent history via the trade market. In the very trade that sent Phil Kessel to Toronto, the Bruins picked up 2 first-rounders and a second-rounder from the Leafs -- and they drafted Tyler Seguin with one of those first-rounders. There was lots of trade talk over the summer between the squads as well, but nothing arose from those rumors.
In another story involving Seguin, the Bruins have just 4 more games to make their decision on the youngster. Once he plays in 10 games at the NHL level, the B's cannot send him back to his junior team (Plymouth) without having his entry-level contract officially begin. Prior to the 10-game plateau, however, Boston could return Seguin to the Whalers and his entry-level contract would not begin until next season. The general consensus around the organization, though, is that Seguin will likely be staying in Boston and continuing his development with the big boys. He's accumulated 1 goal and 2 assists through 6 games thus far.
How will he fair against his hometown favorites? The puck is about to drop from Boston between the B's and the Leafs. Catch it all on NESN.
