11/14 NBA Recap: Overhaul
There were five games of NBA action last night, each exciting it its own right. Here' today's NBA recap.
- The Timberwolves lost another game, this time against the Atlanta Hawks, setting their record at 3-8. Kevin Love impressed again, having 22 points and 17 rebounds. But it was Al Horford and Josh Smith who stole the show for the Hawks, combining for 51 points. Minnesota isn't too bad of a team, as they have Love, an astounding scorer in Michael Beasley (34 PPG since returning 3 games ago), Corey Brewer off the bench, and a solid rookie in Weley Johnson. Two gaping holes on this team: the center and point guard positions, two of the most important positions on a team. Darko Millicic and Sebastian Telfair/Jonny Flynn won't get it done, and Minnesota needs to improve those positions if the team wants to do anything. Ricky Rubio isn't playing anytime soon. What's the answer? It might be Kyrie Irving, Duke PG, who is a top prospect for next year's draft. Whoever it is, the C and PG positions need a serious overhauling.
-The Lakers received their second loss at the hands of the Phoenix Suns. Jason Richardson ran rampart against the Lakers, putting up 35 points. Steve Nash also added 21 points and 13 assists. But the game was a shootout, the Suns specialty, as they almost tied an NBA record for three pointers made in a game, banking 22. This was the Lakers second loss in a row, and their first home loss of the season. Should LA fans worry? No, because the Lakers still look like the best team in the league, and every team is bound to lose.
-The Houston Rockets beat the New York Knicks 104-96. Kevin Martin and Luis Scola combined for 52 points. The Rockets are now 3-6, while the Knicks were handed their 5th straight loss. Can we just give the Atlantic division to the Celtics? The Knicks and Sixers are too inconsistent, the Nets need another year of development, and he Raptors are on the down-swing. Unless something drastic happens, there's no chance of the Celtics losing the division.
MVP of the Night: The Phoenix Suns, for the amount of threes scored and the fact they did it against facing a top-tier team.
