11/15 NBA Recap: Scrooge McDuck
It was another exciting night of NBA basketball, sans Celtics on 11/15. Let's delve right into today's NBA recap.
-The New Orleans Hornets received their first loss last night at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd, and Jason Terry (off the bench) combined for 27 points in the fourth quarter, which greatly diminished the Hornets' ten point lead going into the final 12 minutes. Dallas was helped by the Hornets sub-par shooting in the final period, as they only shot 30% from the field, and hit only 1 of its last 15 shots. This could be the start of a trend for the Hornets, as they haven't really played any top-tier teams until they played Dallas, the trend being losing to highly ranked teams. Going undefeated for eight days is no doubt a feat of itself, but doing it against top-level teams is even better.
-Last year's worst team in the NBA, the Nets, defeated this year's worst team in the league, the Clippers. The Nets are now 4-6, and this is their first win against a Western Conference foe in 23 games. But the victory was not without consequence, as the Nets lost star point guard Devin Harris after he committed a very hard foul, and he was ejected. However, Jordan Farmar had 15 points and 12 assists filling in for the injured Harris. This shows the Nets have a little of that magic depth. Can they make a splash this year? No way Jose. But next year, with Scrooge McDuck as their owner, they could make some noise if they can land a good veteran piece in the off season or Troy Murphy can play as a compliment to Lopez.
-Hakim Warrick had a career night for the Suns against the Nuggets scoring 21 points. The Nuggets and Suns had a combined 11 players in double figures, and a combined 17 total scorers. Why did the Suns win? Deeper bench. All but two players played for the Suns last night, while 4 didn't see time for the Nuggets. I'm not going to talk about depth here, because you know what I'll say.
MVP of the Noche: Hakim Warrick (21 points, lead team to victory in the fourth quarter)
