One of the biggest issues (justifiably so) this NFL season is concussions and helmet to helmet hits. And no one has been in the center of this issue more than Steelers linebacker James Harrison.
The whole hub-ub and cracking down on helmet-to-helmet hits started after James Harriosn nearly took Browns' receiver Mohamed Massaquoi's head off with a helmet-to-helmet hit. Since then, Harrison has been fined three other times for questionable hits (he was fined for the Massaquoi hit as well.)
Now, Harrison is claiming the NFL is targeting him for his hits. Harrison claims he plays a rough style, and that football at its core is a physical sport, and people will get hurt. But the NFL is claiming that the safety of the players is the main concern, and that Harrison keeps violating their rules.
Harrison IS clearly head-hunting in the video above, there is no doubt about that. But most defensive players today don't know how to tackle properly, and just go for big hits so Hannah Storm can talk about them on SportsCenter. Harrison might justbe a product of the new breed of high-testerone defensive players.
Alas, I ask you, the UB faithful, what do you think? Is James Harrison being targeted, or is he just playing martyr? As with the last You Decide! I will analyze the results in a future column, perhaps a week from now. Vote and tell us why you voted the way you did!
