Rumors Continue To Swirl Around Both Tim Thomas And Marc Savard
On this day, one day after the NHL draft finished its second round, the rumors still continue to swirl around the likes of Bruins center Marc Savard and goaltender Tim Thomas. Lately, though, the rumors have been more severe regarding Savard as a key piece to a trade.
Here's what I find interesting. Yesterday, both Savard and Thomas officially waived their no-trade clauses. Savard's waive, though, reportedly gave the Bruins permission only to trade him to Ottawa or Toronto. But the point it, they both waived their clauses yesterday. It has been said for a week now that they would waive their no-trade clauses if Boston had a trade in the works with a team they would be willing to go play for. Does Chiarelli have something on brink of completion with another franchise? Only the select few involved in the deal would know.
Ultimately, I do not want the Bruins to trade Marc Savard. I do want them to trade Tim Thomas. There is one scenario that I would condone a trade of Savard for, though. There have been no rumors about it, but it would be a great series of moves by Chiarelli if he were to deal Thomas and Savard in a way that clears up a lot of their cap space -- to avoid getting big salaries in return. You'd think -- why? You won't get an impact player back without salary, right? If Boston cleared enough salary and proceeded to sign electrifying winger Ilya Kovalchuk from the free agent market, that would be a phenomenal outcome. That's the one situation I would condone trading Marc Savard. Again, there have been no rumors saying that is their plan, but with the Devils still having failed to negotiate an extension with Kovalchuk, anything is possible once July 1st comes.
It's been going on forever and likely will end soon. Hopefully we will find out within the coming days (or even hours) whether or not #91 and #30 will be dawning black and gold next year. As I have since the time he came in, we'll just have to trust Peter Chiarelli. Despite the fact that many people hate on him for messing up situations, he has come in with a Bruins franchise in shambles and made them a legitimate Cup contender in his time. We'll have to trust that whatever moves he makes are in the best interest of the franchise.

Just found an interesting article browsing for Savard and Thomas rumors and I stumbled upon this:

San Jose has a plethora of young talented wingers that we could have an eye on and dealing Thomas to San Jose could be a possibility since the Sharks are shopping the marking for a goaltender since Nabokov is leaving.
Hmm interesting... Yeah they do, but unfortunately Savard wouldn't go there I bet. He only wants to go to an east coast or Canadian team I think, because his family lives in Ontario. So the Sharks probably wouldn't give up too much young talent just for Thomas. The next couple days will be very interesting though.
