Source: Pedroia To Miss 6 Weeks
Dustin Pedroia was placed on the 15-day disabled list following the foul ball that broke his foot on Friday, but unfortunately for Sox fans, you can probably triple his expected DL stint. Sources are reporting that he will likely miss six weeks of action, a crushing blow to the Red Sox for the next month and a half.
Pedroia has been arguably Boston's best hitter this season, day in and day out. He's a phenomenal talent defensively at second base. And possibly more than anything, he is a huge leader on this squad. Can Bill Hall get the job done for 6 weeks of every day action in the bigs? Does Boston consider calling up star minor league shortstop Jose Iglesias, moving Scutaro back to his old position of second base? Who knows what they will do as time passes, but for right now, Bill Hall is the guy they're going to.
This next month and a half will really test the heart and soul of this Red Sox team. They've been battling injuries succesfully all year, but this is undoubtedly the biggest challenge they will have had to face.
