10/31 NBA Recap: Bobbing for Wins
It was Halloween last night, and some of the NBA's brightest stars treated their fans with some great plays.
I really like Utah's new color scheme. I also like Utah's new team. They got their first win last night against the (formerly) undefeated Thunder. Former Celtic Al Jefferson is proving to be a dominant big man in the NBA (I have to keep reminding myself that trading him got the Celtics a championship. But still...), putting up 23 points and 10 rebounds last night. But the biggest of the big men last night was Paul Millsap, putting up 30 points and 16 rebounds. Deron Williams had a double-double too (19 points, 16 assists. ) I'm pretty sure that the Utah Jazz just went trick-or-treating, saw a bowl of double-doubles that said "TAKE JUST 1", and helped themselves to three. As impressive as those numbers are, they still pale in comparison to Gordon Hayward's flawless 10 in rootforability. Plus, he's a lock to win the annual "bobbing for apples" contest the Western Conference holds every year (Note: I may have made that contest up.)
Speaking of cool uniform changes, I'm digging the Golden State Warriors new logo. I'm a sucker for the retro look. But the GSW got smoked last night by the Lakers. Can we give the Lakers the title now? Kobe and Pau Gasol are playing great as usual, but Odom is really contributing on the boards. They play like a "team"(such a vague statement, but you know what I'm getting at), and unlike Miami, they have a bench. Matt Barnes and Steve Blake are already showing they can be reliable substitutes. As a Celtics fan, it pains me to say this, but the Lakers will be tying the Celtics for NBA Championships won. Mark my words.
The Clippers(!), lost (to the Mavericks.) Again. Weren't they supposed to be better this season with (technically) rookie Blake Griffin finally playing? Well Griffin did have 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Chris Kaman had a double-double, but only one other player got into double figures (bench player DeAndre Jordan.) I hope to the basketball Gods that Griffin's career isn't wasted on a losing team. Did anyone notice if Blake Griffin got any solid teammates in his candy bag last night?
HALLOWEEN MVP: Paul Millsap (you know the stats.)
