11/2 NBA Recap: Rondowned
The Celtics cruised and John Wall continues to impress. Asbestos was falling from the sky and Kevin Love is trapped in Minnesota. Here's today's NBA recap.
In another assists happy performance, Rajon Rondo has the record for most most assists after four games (67), passing two legends, Magic Johnson, and (my all-time favorite player) John Stockton. Sure, it's only four games, and there are 78 other games to play. But with the cast of scorers around him, Rajon Rondo has a great chance to take the single-season assists record of 1,164, set by Stockton. At this moment, Rondo is averaging 16.8 assists per game. With the 82-game schedule, (assuming he remains at 16.8 apg) Rondo is on pace for about 1,377 assists this season, smashing the record. Can he do it, and pass my beloved John Stockton? If Pierce, Garnett, and Allen stay healthy and keep scoring, Rondo has a superb chance of chasing the record. The Celtics easily beat the semi-Bizzaro Celtics 109-86, despite being out-rebounded. Besides Rondo's 17 assists, Kevin Garnett put up 22 points and Paul Pierce had 21.
The best part about the game though? Semih Erden getting 2 blocks off the bench. I expect big things! No, not really, but in a blowout game he may be one of the most exciting players to watch this year.
And am I alone on the fact that I hate when Nate Robinson is in the game at PG? He pulls up for jumpers too much, and misses most of those jumpers (1-6 from the field last night), and isn't great on defense. When Rondo is in at PG and he is at SG it's OK at best, but it is not a good thing when Robinson is taking up the ball and launching jumpers with 15 seconds left on the shot clock.
Thoughts about the rest of the NBA:
-John Wall continues to turn heads, putting up 29 points, 13 assists, and 9(!) steals, nearly grabbing a triple-double. Plus, his team finally won. This kid is crazy quick, and putting up numbers should be no problem for him. But can he lead this team? Probably not, because the supporting cast, with Arenas at least, is weak. If Arenas can make an impact right away, Wall should be able to lead this team to a respectable record.
-Atlanta improves to 4-0, taking down the Cleveland 100-88, despite JJ Hickson putting up 31 points. Atlanta has the chance to sneak up on teams on even make a push to the second-round of the playoffs (if they make it that far.) The Cavs have a chance of getting Cleveland's hopes up with performances like Hickson's, only to dissapoint.
-Kevin Love put up 20 points, but played only 25 minutes. To quote DRob, is this real life? How can Minnesota bench their best player against the "Team that Shall not Be Named?" Minnesota lost in a blowout, but could have shrunk that lead if they had the common sense to play their best player. Free Kevin Love! Free Kevin Love......
- The Knicks game was postponed because of asbestos falling from the season. Nice try, New York, but we all know you're stalling because you don't want to face a pissed off Orlando team.
