Rangers No Match for Giants
There's actually a solid chance you didn't even know the World Series clinching game occurred tonight, because ESPN is far more infatuated with the Randy Moss story that hasn't even officially happened yet, Monday Night Football, the Vikings, Favre, and I might as well just include LeBron because normally that's the case as well. But the most significant event in the sports world tonight, regardless of what the media is choosing as their hot topic, was the pure domination of Tim Lincecum and the San Francisco Giants, who won their first World Series title since 1954.
I'll be honest -- I thought the Rangers would win this series, and I even thought they would win this game going into tonight. But give the Giants credit. They just straight up figured out how to beat Cliff Lee, previously the most dominating postseason performer of his era. I think Tim Lincecum may have seized that throne tonight.
Lincecum fired 8 innings of 3-hit ball, yielding just 1 earned run and fanning 10 Rangers. It was a true pitchers' duel for most of the game, as both fireballers wheeled shutouts into the seventh frame. That's when former Red Sox bust Edgar Renteria delivered the biggest hit of his life, blasting a 3-run homer off Cliff Lee with two outs in the 7th to give his Giants a 3-1 lead. Nelson Cruz answered with a solo shot in the bottom half of the inning, but it proved to be futile for Texas, who fell at the hands of San Francisco closer Brian Wilson in the 9th. Game, set, match. San Francisco Giants, congratulations. You are the 2010 World Series Champs. It wasn't the Yanks. It wasn't the Phils. That's all I asked for at the start of this postseason. Amen.
