Fantasy Basketball: Be Weary
Stepping away from my daily NBA Recaps, I decided to do some articles on fantasy basketball. In some further installments, I may look at sleepers and obvious picks, but today, I'm going to instruct you on players you should be weary of when picking in a fantasy draft. Here are four players you should avoid drafting too early:
Chris Bosh, PF- Pretty much a given at this point. He won't be scoring as much with LeBron James and Dwayne Wade on his team. In Toronto, he was the guy, and could run rampart with scoring, as there were really no other viable options. However, James and Wade are better scorers, and like to have the rock in their hands. Plus, Bosh has been somewhat unimpressive so far this season, so I wouldn't pick him as early as you might have in the last few years. Still a late second/early third round pick.
Blake Griffin, PF- If you read my daily NBA Recaps, you'll probably find out I'm a mark for Blake Griffin. But after last season's knee injury, I wouldn't spring to get him too early. Yes, his numbers so far this year are remarkable, but knee injuries have a higher risk of coming back, and he plays an aggressive game, so it's a possibility that he could re-injure his knee.
Carmelo Anthony, SF- This is mostly due to the situation he's put himself in. He is unhappy in Denver, and unhappy players don't play as well as happy players. His numbers this year (in three games) are very good so far (23 ppg, 7 rpg), but the longer he remains in Denver, the unhappier he'll be. He's still a top 20 pick, just don't spring for him in the first round or early second round.
Kevin Love, PF/C- A great player. But for some reason Minnesota likes to keep him on the bench for half the game, even if he's not in foul trouble. In three games so far this season, he's played 75 minutes (25 per game.) Um, I'm pretty sure he's Minnesota's best player, but he's only playing 50% of the game. So naturally, his numbers will suffer, and so will fantasy owners. He'd be a great pick if he played more.
