Pierce vs. Allen: Who Wins?
ESPNBoston.com-Celtics captain Paul Pierce (42.3 percent) and Ray Allen (45.4 percent) are both shooting career-highs from 3-point nation this season, and Pierce, the NBA's reigning 3-point champion, thinks he and Allen should square off in the event to be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, site of the NBA's 60th annual All-Star game.
I love this idea, and not just as a Celtics fan, but as an NBA fan. The all-star festivities have been getting kind of mundane over the years, especially with the dunk-contests getting more rudimentary. But this could bring some more interest into the event.
Why? Having two good buddies (and teammates) who are some of the elite in three-point shooters in the league facing off to see who really is better at pure three-point shooting. As far as I'm concerned, this could definitely bring some excitement to another stale NBA All-Star weekend competition.
So, as I often do, I'm reaching out to the UB Faithful to pick who they think will win. Does the reigning champ Pierce have the tools to retain his title and thwart the attempts of Allen? Or is Ray Allen too good of a pure shooter to lose to his friend? Let us know your thoughts.
As for me, I'd put my money on Allen. Pierce is great beyond the arc, but Allen is phenomenal, and may be the best pure shooter the NBA has ever seen.
