Ugghh...
Ugghh. The only thought that comes to mind after that brutally frustrating 6-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston had the game in control, riding a 5-1 lead into the 5th inning on Eric Patterson's two-homerun night. It didn't take much longer though, for Daisuke Matsuzaka to once again implode on a lead for the Sox.
Tampa clawed away at Boston's 5-1 lead by plating 2 runs in the 5th and 2 more in the 6th, bringing this frustrating contest to a tied score. Matsuzaka got through just 5+ innings, yielding 4 earned runs on 8 hits. Will we ever see the 18-3, 2.90 ERA Dice-K from a few years ago come back to the mound? Anybody's guess.
Despite getting the tying run on base in the 9th inning, the Red Sox were unable to capitalize and dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to Tampa.
The Sox chased Rays starter Matt Garza after just 3 innings -- his shortest career outing versus Boston -- but the Tampa Bay bullpen was formidable in their 6 innings of work.
The series continues tomorrow night from Tropicana Field, where Sox rookie Felix Doupront will make another spot start in place of the injured Clay Buchholz. Start time is 7:10 PM EDT.
