McGrady Signs on with Pistons
Former NBA superstar Tracy McGrady has found a new home once again, signing with the Detroit Pistons for one year and $1.35 million. Despite some speculation that the Celtics would go after him as their backup shooting guard, no real sources actually hinted that it was a possibility. Chicago was the other team to garner serious interest in McGrady, according to ESPN.
Well this story is fairly insignificant on all accounts, but it does make a bit of a statement. It's the modern day NBA game. While other sports stockpile their youth and win with young superstars, the NBA proves time and time again to be a place where you win with veterans. The vets are the ones who win titles these days. Not the young teams like OKC and Memphis. They're not over the hump yet. Why is this? It just might be because of how good that generation of players is. For example, the online reports are going around about the dude who simulated the C's current team on NBA 2002. They went 82-0. Because all their players were filthy good back then. And there are so many more. Just think about it. Late 90s into this decade. Think about how many phenomenal players there are. That's why this is a veteran's league. Once this generation finishes up their time, the league will likely transition back to a league that anyone can win.
