Silva Stuns Sonnen, Keeps Belt
For those of you who were able to watch UFC 117 tonight, you experienced the incredible power of Anderson Silva. He showed the world why he is a champion. Ironically enough, he did it by getting completely dominated for four rounds of the middleweight title fight.
Chael Sonnen absolutely destroyed Anderson Silva in rounds 1, 2, 3, and 4. And I mean he absolutely destroyed him. You could consider it a partial miracle that Silva was even still standing come the fifth round. He'd taken countless huge blows to the head and everywhere else. Sonnen went ape on Silva. Took the entire arena by siege. We were wrapping the middleweight championship belt around his waist before the fat lady had gotten a chance to sing. And Anderson Silva showed us why you never count him out until that very last horn. In the half guard, Silva transitioned into a vicious triangle choke that took about 5 seconds to completely execute. One second, Sonnen was 100% dominating the fight and was on his way to a sure victory. 6 seconds later, he had reluctantly tapped out to the extreme triangle choke that Silva pulled on him. Game, set, match. My blog post doesn't do it justice. This was an incredible fight to watch. You could have watched it right here on Ultimate Boston. Let me tell you... you missed out.
