Jets CEO Says He Doesn't Think Revis Will Play
So I was just watching Sportscenter while taking a break from Madden (official review coming up later on) and I saw Woody Johnson, the Jets chairman and CEO, say his prediction. He doesn't think that Darrelle Revis will play for the New York Jets this season. My first reaction? Wow. You've got a team that you expect to win the Super Bowl, and you can't even come to terms with the best cornerback in the NFL? I mean, yes, there is mutual blame in my opinion. Revis is handling this like a child, it seems. He held out for his last contract, and now with 3 years still left on that contract, he's holding out again. Do you want a Super Bowl ring or not? Maybe I was right all along about the players on this Jets team. They just aren't winners. Sanchez may become one eventually, but look at their so-called big name guys. LT has never won the big games. Jason Taylor? Cromartie? Look at their history as far as winning the big games. Nothing doing. Alright, fine... Santonio Holmes has been a big game player, but he's got enough problems to bring that point to question. I think they make the playoffs this year, but I've just been adamant about the fact that they aren't a Super Bowl caliber team just yet. Losing Revis confirms that in my mind. The guy shut down every top receiver in the league last year. Losing him is a big deal, despite Rex Ryan's claims today that they will be fine without him. I respect that, it's what a coach is supposed to say. But we all know it isn't true. In a division where the Jets will face Randy Moss and Brandon Marshall two times each, they could really use that shut down corner. Not to mention the other big receivers around the league on their schedule that Revis could shut down. It is a bigger loss than you may think. So I guess we can all just hope that the Jets and Revis continue to handle this like two 6-year olds fighting over an action figure and that the Patriots will have a slightly easier time passing all over that secondary.
