Oh man. We got a doozy for today's inaugural Cage Fight Pick 'Em. We've got the battle of the Boston Garden with Brian Scalabrine taking on Tim Thomas. Scal fights out of the green corner and Timmy fights out of the yellow corner. Let's break this one down for you.
Scal: Big Red has the definite size advantage in this one. NBA player vs NHL player, the baller's gonna win pretty much every time. Scal has the heart and the passion. We've seen it before. Always up cheering his team on. Even if his head isn't in the game sometimes, we know he will fight till the end. With the size and strength advantage, Scal is going to try to stand this fight up. He'll have the better striking ability over Timmy. A big reach advantage. If Scal's gonna win this, he's doing it with a knockout.
Timmy: Oh, Tim Thomas. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner coming into this season. Ends up taking a backseat to Tuukka. Timmy obviously is giving up some height and weight, but he would toast Scal's shit in a drinking contest any day. His water bottle is spiked every game. One thing you can't underestimate is that Timmy is battle tested. No offense to Scal, but he's really not in the game that much. Timmy is more robust and that strength is packed in. He's going to want to bring this fight to the ground. Scal isn't familiar with the ground game. Timmy spends approximately 36/60 minutes of a hockey game sprawling in crazy positions on the ice.
X-Factor: The X-factor in this fight is pretty much what I already said. It will be whether or not Timmy can bring this fight to the mat. If they're on the ground, Scal stands very little chance of taking out the Tank. If Tank can't execute the takedown, though... game, set, match for Big Red. I think this one almost goes the distance, but Tank will get the takedown and carry on with his dominance.
The Decision: Tim Thomas submits Scal with a rear-naked choke.
What do the fans think? Vote 1 for DRob is crazy and Scal would take down Timmy. Vote 5 for DRob nailed it, Tank can never be defeated.
