YahooSports -To paraphrase a classic line from the movie "Office Space," it's not that Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger(notes) is a malevolent jerk — it's that he just doesn't care. Part of Pronger's makeup as a leader is being the agitator-in-chief for his team, and the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals are no exception. Witness Pronger here after Monday night's 2-1 Game 2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, repeating his violation of hockey protocol from Game 1 in which he collected the game puck in defeat to keep this one-of-a-kind memento away from his rivals:
Chris Pronger is okay in my book. Not only is he a great defenseman, but he likes to stir shit up and get on people’s nerves. Now, there is a difference between Sean Avery and Chris Pronger. Sean Avery gets on people’s nerves because he’s an attention-grabbing thirteen year old girl who can’t play hockey but can pick out a purse that would match your girlfriend’s shoes. Chris Pronger actually plays well, plays hard, and pisses the other team off because he can hurt you. Stealing the game puck may “violate hockey protocol,” but if the other team will cry because Pronger upsets them, then the mental edge will go to the Flyers. It’s the same thing with Ovechkin and Crosby. Ovechkin toys with Crosby. Taunts the shit out of him and laughs while doing it because he isn’t phased one bit. Ovechkin would destroy Crosby in a fight. Goes without saying.
Any way, what does everybody think? (I don’t expect any votes because I don’t think we have any readers yet but I am curious and either way I’ll discuss this with DRob) Is Pronger stealing pucks because he’s pissed he’s going to lose or because he’s trying to get in the heads of the Blackhawks?
