I'm going to cut my wrists if the Bruins don't get Taylor Hall
Yeah, I know, we're all still crying over the Bruins' terrible collapse in the conference semifinals to the Philadelphia Flyers. When they not only blew a 3-0 series lead, but they also blew a 3-0 lead in game 7. I know. But let's be realistic for a second here. You've seen the first two games of the Stanley Cup Finals. Do you really think the Bruins team on the ice in that series (without Krejci and Sturm) could muster up the firepower to outscore the Blackhawks? The Cup wasn't going to happen this year. So now it's time to move forward. We have a potential franchise-changer sitting on the table at the upcoming NHL draft on June 25. Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall are the consensus top two choices. And I will cut my wrists if it isn't Taylor Hall wearing black and gold.
Hockey's not like other sports. It's different in a lot of ways. A lot of times, guys can play a number of different positions. But not with these two guys. They're superstars. Seguin's a center. Hall's a wing. That's it. No negotiating. Which is why we cannot get Tyler Seguin. I'm sure he's every bit the player Taylor Hall is. I'm sure Seguin can carry a franchise on his back. But we're loaded at center. Krejci, Savard, Bergeron, Sobotka. Who gets cut if we get Seguin? And, on top of that, which of the remaining four is your FOURTH LINE center? I sure as hell know Seguin isn't a fourth liner. Neither are the other guys. Getting Tyler Seguin will really be a huge blow to this team's promising immediate future. It's going to force them to make a trade. Whether they trade the pick, trade Seguin, or trade one of their other three centers, you're jumbling things up with a team that was arguably an injury away from the Stanley Cup finals.
Taylor Hall is the PERFECT fit in this city. An explosive, electrifying, game-changing GOAL SCORER! Could it be? The Bruins will get a legitimate goal scorer? It's what we have the chance to do. Seguin is said to be more of a playmaker, despite scoring more goals this season than Hall in the OHL. Seguin was the player of the year in the OHL. Hall was the playoff MVP and his team won the Memorial Cup. They tied for the scoring title. These guys are as good as it gets. But the problem is bigger than it sounds. We need a winger. We need one badly. We need Taylor Hall.
Edmonton has the first pick. They could take either one. Rumor has it they need a center more than a wing. But they're going to take the best player. Who that is has yet to be decided. But I'm shitting my pants over the possibility that they like Hall better than Seguin. Should the Bruins make a trade? Give Edmonton Tim Thomas and Blake Wheeler for that first pick in exchange for our second? That's a move that has also been rumored. Since Tuukka Rask has evolved, Thomas is expendable (and really takes up too much cap space to keep him, anyway). Whatever the case, all I know is that, next year, we need to be selling a brand new rookie jersey with a 4-letter name on the back. Not a 6-letter name.
Vote 1 for it doesn't matter, each player is phenomenal. Vote 5 for we absolutely need Taylor Hall, no questions asked.
