Algeria Ties England, Sets Table for USA
How about those Algerians! In yesterday's Group C match between England and Algeria, neither side was able to strike for a goal, earning a 0-0 final tally. With the draw, the United States now controls its own destiny into the next round. With a win against Algeria on Wednesday, they will advance. They are no longer in need of any help from others. Win, and you're in.
There is also a chance that they could get into the next round without a win. If the USA draws algeria, it would put itself at 3 points. This would mean that a Slovenia victory over England would send the United States through. If the two sides were to tie, the USA would need to have the tiebreaker over England to advance. They currently do win the tiebreaker, but it could very easily be changed with another match's result.
But you can skip all the fancy junk and just root for the Americans to get this win. Algeria would have been considered the easiest foe to knock down in this group coming in, but they have since played England to a draw. Just count down the days until Wednesday, though. Because if we see a performance like the one we saw in the second half yesterday from our beloved Americans, you can count on the States earning a seed in the knockout round.
