Sox Walk Off On Dodgers, 5-4
Tim Wakefield and the Boston Red Sox took the field against the Los Angeles Dodgers again this afternoon, and thanks to a walk-off single by Dustin Pedroia in the 9th, the Sox came out on top once again.
The knuckle-baller went 6.1 innings, yielding 3 earned runs. Boston somehow worked its way around a 4-error day to hang in there and claw out a 5-4 victory. The Dodgers brought in their closer, Jonathan Broxton, to get Dustin Pedroia in the 9th inning with two men on and two out. Unfortunately for Joe Torre and his LA squad, Broxton surrendered a single to right field that scored Daniel Nava from second base and kept the Red Sox within 1 game of the Yankees in the AL East. They are just a half-game behind the Rays for second place.
Manny Ramirez homered at Fenway park for the first time since his trade to the Dodgers in July of 2008. The reception during his first at bat today had a few less audible boos than it did last night in his debut.
The Sox will hand the ball to Clay Buchholz tomorrow to go for the 3-game sweep of LA. Luckily, the game will not be on FOX -- so we won't have to suffer through 9 innings of Tim McCarver and Joe Buck.
