Lester Collects Career Win #50
Even on nights where they weren't really on their game, that 1-2 punch of Buchholz and Lester turns in a combined 12.2 IP and just 5 earned runs between them. 2-0 record. Buchholz stands at 9-4 with a 2.67 ERA, and Lester improved to 8-2 with a 3.13 ERA. Tied for first in the American League with 96 strikeouts. Both of these guys are having Cy Young caliber seasons so far, and most would agree they haven't even been on top of their game in their past few starts. Tonight, it looked like Lester was really laboring through those innings. At the end of the day, though, he turns in 7 innings of 2-run ball. The Sox pitching staff (or at least part of it) is definitely starting to live up to the hype it had entering the season. If Beckett can come back healthy in vintage-Beckett form and Lackey can string together some quality outings, this will solidify itself as the best starting rotation in baseball.
