Celtics, Shaq Close to Deal

Sources close to both Shaquille O'Neal and the Boston Celtics -- including ESPN, NBA.com, and Comcast SportsNet -- have reported that Shaq-diesel is approaching an agreement on a contract with the Boston Celtics. Many fans thought that acquiring O'Neal was out of the question when the C's signed another O'Neal -- Jermaine -- to a contract last month. They just might be proven wrong very soon, as those sources are claiming the deal could be done as soon as tonight or early tomorrow.

I guess I'm a fan of this signing. Perk is going to be out for a while, so we still need big man help. If Rasheed stays retired, who are our big guys? KG, Big Baby, and Jermaine O'Neal. We could use another. Who knows how Jermaine will be. Big Baby doesn't have incredible height. KG has shown that he may be wearing down as far as minutes capability. Adding another big body might not hurt. After all, we lost the finals in large part because of rebounding and post defense. The Shaqtus can bring those elements to our game, even if it's in a small role off the bench. Hopefully it works out.
