Jacoby Back to DL
Here's a shocker for you -- Jacoby Ellsbury is headed back to the disabled list.
Ellsbury collided with Texas pitcher Tommy Hunter during the first play of Friday's contest against the Rangers. He came out of the game in the fourth inning and supposedly has re-injured his ribs. I just don't know what to say anymore, to be honest.
I've been Jacoby's biggest supporter during the criticism he's gotten. But now I'm starting to wonder why I so strongly opposed the notion that he was potential trade bait for the likes of Roy Halladay or Adrian Gonzalez last season and this offseason. In a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately type of sports city, what has Ellsbury accomplished? Batting under .200 in his brief season (what has he played, 20 games? Check that, 18 games.) and constantly heading back to the DL, he's certainly lacked the major contributions that he gave us in previous years. I'm just starting to wonder what exactly the deal is with him. I know that Beltre is a tank and he did a number on Ellsbury's ribs in that collision, but come on! It's been 4 months since that day. For Christ's sake, Wes Welker would have basically been back on the field by now after tearing his ACL and MCL. Ellsbury has a rib injury and has returned a few times only to go right back down. It's time for our pink-hat favorite to make a decision right now. Either call it quits for the year and come back fully healthy next season, or start sucking it up and playing through your injury. The Sox don't have the time to let him fluctuate somewhere in the middle. Very disappointing season for a kid that we expected much more from. Missing time with an injury is one thing, but this Ellsbury deal has been a whole different monster. And we need it to end. Now.
