VOTE NOW on Fight #17: Jeter vs Crosby
vs
The Matchup: New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter against Pittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby.
The Fight: Jeter is taller than I thought, standing at 6'3" in comparison to Crosby's 5'10" frame. Crosby, though, has a 200-195 weight advantage over Jeter. This would be an interesting fight and I was born to root against both of these players, so there isn't even any room for a bias. Crosby definitely wins the conditioning aspect of the fight. Baseball players don't need nearly the speed and conditioning hockey players do. With the weight advantage, I think Crosby might have the stronger force behind his punches as well. But Jeter's reach is longer. He's got plenty of power in his arms. He'll want to stand the fight up. Crosby is probably fine with any method, but I think he'd stand the best chance by mixing it up. Deliver some strikes to the body, go for takedowns, basically just wear Jeter out. Jeter's a classy guy, but I don't know if he's up to the task when it comes to this much physical and aggressive contact. Crosby experiences that much more on a routine basis. It's ultimately just a tough fight to call.
My Vote: I don't think I can deny the speed and strength of a hockey player over a shortstop. Crosby is not only much younger than Jeter and much closer to the prime of his athletic career, but he's also just more conditioned and overall more prepared for a cage fight. Jeter is one of the only Yankees I ever have or ever will respect, and he'll go down fighting. He'll be gassed, but he won't give up. The fight will go to a judge's decision. Sidney Crosby wins a split decision from the judges over Derek Jeter.
Your turn. Time to vote. Who moves on?
