Lester and Buchholz: The League's Best 1-2 Punch
Call me crazy. But these guys are currently the most dangerous 1-2 punch in the big leagues. Who would have thought Buchholz would be the one to join Lester, not Beckett or Lackey? Regardless, they're lighting it up. Between the two of them, they have allowed a combined 2 ER in their last 6 combined starts. 6-0 in those starts of course. Buch has won his last 5 starts overall. Lester's 7-0 in his last 9 starts. Buchholz's ERA dropped to 2.39 with that gem last night. Lester sunk his own to 2.73 with his solid blanking tonight. And what do you know? Four weeks ago, everyone was writing off the Sox as a team destined for a terrible finish in the AL East this year. We find ourselves just 3.5 games back of the Rays and 1.5 back of the Yankees now. With Lester and Buch combining for a 15-5 record, you can expect more of the same moving forward; especially when Beckett gets healthy, Lackey wakes up, and Dice-K becomes a phenomenal Asian pitcher again instead of a subpar American pitcher. Once those things happen, the Rays and Yanks better have their head on a swivel. Or they'll get Clay-Jonned by the Sox big 1-2 punch.

i thought buchholz was going to be good but i did not think he was this great this year. and even tho April was a Sloppy Month for Lester but Shows us why he is one of the Best Lefty's in Baseball! i think Buchholz and Lester are the Lincecum and Cain of the AL
ReplyDeleteI know. He's been awesome. The Red Sox are storming back!
ReplyDeletethats right! i see the skanks falling soon
ReplyDeleteYou deserve to die a slow death of Felix Hernandez and Cliff Lee pummeling you with fastballs.
ReplyDeleteMaybe once you stop listening to Boston sports radio that hemorrhage in your head that's causing your homerism tourettes will stop bleeding.
Really? Is that my Boston bias? Because Lee and Hernandez are a combined 6-6. Lester and Buchholz are 15-5. Hernandez has a 3.26 ERA, Lee a 2.91. Lester has a 2.73, Buchholz a 2.39. So I'm not sure how my bias is really playing in here.....

Those stats are interesting. You know why? Between the start of that list and Clay Buchholz, there are only 4 teams with multiple pitchers on there. Sox are one of four teams with a duo in that list. So sorry if the Marlins, Giants, or Blue Jays duos are slightly better than ours of Lester and Buchholz. Point is they are right up there at the top of the league. Are you even serious right now? Your graph supports me. LOL.
