USA vs England: Halftime Thoughts
All things considered, I thought that was a great first half for the United States. We controlled the possession of the ball, and had several quality chances on runs by Altidore and Onyewu. Donovan's sending quality crosses into the box, and one of these times, they will connect. The bad side thus far, to me, has been the backfield. We apply some pressure and then, boom! England comes back the other way and has a prime scoring chance with numbers against the US defenders. And the England goal was on a defensive mishap, as well, that allowed a man through the seam into the middle. Tighten up that defense and start connecting on some crosses, and I think the USA will be just fine in the second half. Ultimately, a tie is fine by me in this match. Two teams advance, and we are likely to take down our other two opponents (Algeria & Slovenia). So the mindset should still be to win because it's a very winnable game, but the biggest goal is to avoid leaving this match empty handed.
