Jacoby to be Examined, Bad News for Sox
Jacoby Ellsbury is going to be examined more closely by doctors at a rib injury he sustained quite some time ago in a collision with Adrian Beltre. The Sox flashy outfielder has played just nine games this year and has had multiple stints on the disabled list. He tried to return once, but had too much pain to stay in the lineup. This is real bad news for the Red Sox moving forward. I know they are still winning games without him, but how long can it last? How long can Jeremy Hermida, Darnell McDonald, and Bill Hall hold the fort in the outfield? Given that Mike Cameron has also been injury plagued all season, this is foreboding news for Boston. We need Jacoby sooner rather than later, and this further examination could only be an indication of the latter choice. I guess we'll just have to hope that Scutaro can continue to hit the way he has for the past week out of the lead-off spot, and that the previously mentioned trio of backups can throw their reputations out the window and live up to the pressure of being on patrol of the Fenway outfield day in and day out.
